(Atlanta, GA) Award-winning filmmaker and acclaimed journalist Rahiem Shabazz‚Äôs documentary ‚ÄúElementary Genocide‚ÄĚ called the community to action on January 20, 2014 in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The controversial documentary celebrates the efforts of Dr. King for educational equality while revealing the current public school system is still failing African-American youth. ‚ÄúElementary Genocide‚ÄĚ brought a packed house of different generations together on the MLK holiday to the historical Plaza Theater in Atlanta. The film premiere hosted by Shabazz also featured a panel of influential male community leaders to remind the community the holiday symbolizes a day of service and nearly half a century later social change is still necessary within the African-American community.

Shabazz, the director of ‚ÄúElementary Genocide,‚ÄĚ started the event with infamous words from Dr. King stating ‚ÄúA nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.‚ÄĚ Shabazz explained the American government allots more money on the prison system than the educational system which has created the prison industrial complex within the African-American community. As the credits rolled to ‚ÄúElementary Genocide‚ÄĚ the audience gave the inspirational film a standing ovation.

Following the viewing of the film there was a roundtable discussion moderated by entertainment publicist Christal Jordan featuring Imageinfluential male community leaders of activists, authors and educators. The panel included Director Rahiem Shabazz, Dr. Torrance Stephens (Author/Clark Atlanta University Professor), Edward Ganes Jr., Dr. Supereme Understanding (Community Activist/Author/Educator), Kalonji Changa, Stone Erickson (AALAS Sci-fi Author of the Year) and Tracey Syphax. The youngest member of the esteemed panel, Stone Erickson, closed out the roundtable discussion with a solution of educated African-Americans coming back to their communities to educate youth as a way to combat the failing educational system. Audience members of families, parents, kids, and educators were also given the opportunity to ask the panelist questions. The ‚ÄúElementary Genocide‚ÄĚ premiere ended with Shabazz thanking attendees and calling them to action within their community to end the mass re-enslavement of African-Americans.

‚ÄúDEAR GOD I LOVE A HUSTLER, PLEASE HAVE MERCY‚ÄĚ DEBUTS ON CYBER MONDAY¬†

Author/Publisher Elizabeth A.P. Whitmore redefines the definition of a hustler with a provocative debut novel

Image

(Atlanta, GA) Acclaimed writer Elizabeth A.P. Whitmore will release her first novel ‚ÄúDear God I Love A Hustler, Please Have Mercy‚ÄĚ on Monday December 2, 2013. Whitmore has re-named Cyber Monday, the¬†term created by marketing companies to persuade people to¬†shop online,¬†as ‚ÄúHustler Monday‚ÄĚ to honor¬†the hard work, dedication and struggle many endure to accomplish their dreams.¬†In¬†her novel, Whitmore¬†focuses on the pop culture¬†term “hustler” which is often glorified from a negative perspective and redefines hustle as; anyone who is passionately working towards a goal and refuses to fail.¬†Whitmore also tackles the stereotypes of good girls¬†fascination with bad boys or hustlers. ‚ÄúOur culture portrays women being drawn to hustlers‚Äô bad boy image but Dear God I Love A Hustler, Please Have Mercy shows how women are attracted to their ambition and business savvy,‚ÄĚ says Whitmore. ‚ÄúMy creative curiosity was intrigued by their positive traits of self-motivation and innate roles as providers and protectors in lieu of violence, crime and drugs.‚ÄĚ

“Dear God I Love a Hustler, Please Have Mercy” is set in Atlanta, GA,¬†known as the birthplace for successful rappers, entertainment executives and emerging entrepreneurs, other forms of Whitmore’s definition of hustler.¬†Whitmore‚Äôs witty underlying themes of race, religion and power shed light on the universal issues of the new generation. This cautionary love story includes 21 rules to dating a hustler and can double as¬†a handbook for women in love with one or considering being in a relationship with a hustler. Whitmore says that in addition to relationships, today’s young women are hustlers themselves. “Most of the women I have been friends with are attracted to hustlers, because they have the same internal qualities.

The highly anticipated debut of ‚ÄúDear God I Love A Hustler, Please Have Mercy‚ÄĚ on Cyber Monday¬†aka Hustler Monday is working to redefine pop culture with positive perspectives on young people and relationships.¬†Whitmore is¬†encouraging all hustlers to share their #HustlerMonday motivation to continue to change the negative predetermined definition of a hustler.

LAURA MICHELLE’S NEW SINGLE SCORES WITH LADY FOOTLOCKER

R&B chantreuse overcomes heartache to pin hit single

Laura Michelle Flyer

(Atlanta, GA) Singer, model, and actress, Laura Michelle a native of New Orleans continues to soar with the announcement that her single ‚ÄúNever Be‚ÄĚ can be heard playing in Lady Foot Locker stores throughout Florida.

Having grown up listening to music from her parents’ favorite artists such as Smokie Robinson, The Temptations, and Aretha Franklin, to her present day inspirations like, Toni Braxton, Christina Aguilera, it’s no surprise that Laura Michelle’s latest release is an up-tempo song about a love gone wrong.

‚ÄúNever Be,‚ÄĚ an R&B infused single, tells the story of a young woman who is head over heels for the man in her life. The song begins with Laura Michelle‚Äôs smooth vocals telling listeners of, ‚Äėthe first time I looked into his eyes, I knew it was love,‚Äô with her upbeat music video mirroring scenes of the young couple laughing on date nights and cuddling in the park. Then the song takes an unexpected twist as you hear Laura Michelle explain that the man of her dreams tells her he is in love with someone else.

‚ÄúIt was a love lost, because he lost out,‚ÄĚ said Laura Michelle during a recent interview with 107 Jamz, as she discussed the inspiration behind the song. ‚ÄúHe told me he was in love with me, we spent time together, and then he said, ‚ÄėOh, I‚Äôm in love with somebody else,‚Äô‚ÄĚ

Not the words that any woman or man, would want to hear after investing their time, heart, and soul into building a life with someone. Nonetheless, this resilient songwriter channeled what could have been a traumatic experience into the inspiration and ‚Äėsurvivor‚Äô like anthem for anyone who‚Äôs has ever been in a similar situation.

It should be no surprise that overcoming is a part of this Atlanta-transplant’s DNA, as Laura Michelle was one of the nearly 378,000 displaced residents as a result of Hurricane Katrina. But even tragedy couldn’t stop Laura Michelle from doing what she loves as an entertainer, who recorded her first song at the age of 14-years old.

‚ÄúYou can‚Äôt sit and sulk over something, it just is what it is,‚ÄĚ Laura Michelle explained during her interview. ‚ÄúYou just move on with your life and you have to know that you‚Äôre number one.‚ÄĚ

TLC’S CHILLI STRIPS TO STRIPES FOR PETA’S NEW ANTI-CIRCUS CAMPAIGN

Grammy Award-winning artist bares the truth about the abuse of

tigers in circuses

Image

(Los Angeles, CA) Crouched inside a cage and wearing nothing but striped bodypaint, Chilli of the multiplatinum trio TLC is the star of a provocative new ad campaign for PETA that demands, “Boycott the Circus.” The ad, which be can reviewed here, reveals that tigers used by circuses are beaten into submission‚ÄĒand when they’re not “performing,” they’re locked away in cramped, filthy cages.

“There’s so much cruelty behind the scenes, which is a something that a lot of people don’t get to see,” Chilli explained in an exclusive PETA interview. “They’re being mean to them to make them do this trick .‚Ķ And I think that everybody needs to be aware of what’s really going on.”

That’s why Chilli was willing to strip down for the cause. “If you can raise awareness to something that’s important, such as this, then you should,” she says. “Because I know for a fact that I would never want to be in a cage.”

Circuses deprive tigers of everything that is natural and important to them, including interacting with their families, foraging and hunting for food, and roaming for miles. Tigers used by circuses are locked in small cages and warehoused in traveling boxcars, where they are exposed to extreme heat and freezing-cold weather. These unnatural and stressful conditions lead tigers and other big cats to become ill, despondent, and increasingly agitated, endangering other animals, circus workers, and attendees.

Chilli joins a growing list of celebrities‚ÄĒincluding Alec Baldwin, Jada Pinkett Smith, Olivia Munn, Cloris Leachman, Sarah Silverman, and Edie Falco‚ÄĒwho have teamed up with PETA to speak out against circuses that use animals.

Broadcast-quality footage of Chilli’s video interview can be downloaded here¬†and previewed here. For more information, please visit PETA.org.

Tyler Lepley grew up as an only child in Philadelphia. From a young age he began athletics where he was a three sport star at Central Bucks West High School, competing in basketball, track and football. Tyler also played collegiate football at Kutztown University, where he was a starting running back for 2 years. He graduated from Kutztown with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation, he moved out to Los Angeles, unsure of what lied ahead but wanting a change and a quest for more. He began a career in personal training, where one day he was approached by a producer who loved his look and personality, and thought he could be right for a role in an upcoming film. Tyler auditioned for the part and booked his first role in an independent feature. After that, his passion for acting began to flourish. He knew he had found his calling and began to cultivate and hone his craft. He began taking numerous acting classes, acquired an agent and manager, and the opportunities came with abundance. With talent, the right tools, advice, and team, his journey had begun. He is currently shooting season 2 of the breakout hit series on OWN called The Haves and the Have Nots, created and produced by Tyler Perry. He can also been seen in the recently released FOX Searchlight film Baggage Claim with Taye Diggs, Paula Patton, Tia Mowry, and Derek Luke.
